Bulgarian plastic relief icon "St. Nicholas the wonderworker", silver plated

This beautiful plastic relief icon makes part of the series issued by Bulgarian mint "Christian Saints and artifacts". The plastic is made of massive silver plating brass, with oxidization ( overlay the silver surface). It is mounted on silver plated frame with size 9 x 13 cms, over a base of black velvet. Nice certificate-booklet (in Bulgarian ) joins the icon.

The plastic relief of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is based on the saint icon from St.Isaac's Cathedral-Saint Petersbourg. Artist designer is Plamen Chernev.

Nichola means "a Victor". St. Nicholas is the master of the winter, the snow and the icy wind. The Orthodox church commemorates him on 6th December. Fish is offered up as sacrifice. This is the patron saint's day of tradesman and bankers, millers, hunters and shepherds. This day is the beginning of the real winter. If the day is cold, the year will be healthy and fruitful.
