Rare Bulgarian Communist Navy Dagger with belt PERFECT « Bulgarian Militaria « Edged weapons « Home
The model was instituted by decree in 1951. Having in mind Bulgaria's friendly relations with the USSR, it is not surprising that the Bulgarian dagger repeats the Soviet Naval dagger M 1945 completely, with only a few small differences. The symbols on the dagger don't make an exception: they are just like the Soviet ones. The person who created the Bulgarian symbols is the painter Georgi Ternovski, who was a commander of 355 battalion of the Marine Infantry. He was conferred upon with the title "Hero of USSR" for landing in the Japanese naval base Seisin in North Korea.
Full length of the dagger when folded: 34 cm/13,4 inches. The dagger only is: 32,7 cm/12,8 inches long. The blade is 23,3 cm/9,2 inches long. In perfect state.
The grip is made of white plastic material and has a frame of gold-like bronze. It ends with a head with a five-angle star. Scabbard is made of steel tin, covered with black leather and framed with polished bronze elements. On the upper bronze end can be noticed the Soviet-like symbols. On the one side is the image of an anchor, and on the other can be noticed a two-mast sailboat in the sea.
The dagger comes with a carrier and belt which is yet rare to find in such perfect state. The latter are made of black textile material and imitation leather. The clasps are made of bronze and look like anchors surrounded by laurel wreath with a five-pointed star above. The oval like buckles you see are for regulating the length - belt's size is adjustable. Its full length is 130 cm/51,2 inches. Width is: 3,8 cm/1,5 inches.
